The thing I miss most about the mainland is the changing of the seasons. Since living in Hawaii almost 9 years I'm more able to recognize the subtle season changes from Spring-like weather to Summer-like weather. We LOVE "winter time" when we can actually bundle up for 75 degree weather and get hot cocoa. But there really is no fall leaves changing and the air getting crisper. One of my favorite smells is how it smells in the autumn.....to me it smells like Halloween. Even though we are pretty much sweating it out, I still love making fall time meals of hearty soups and stews with homemade bread. Somehow my body automatically knows when the weather changes back home.
I was so excited to go to our first pumpkin patch here on Oahu to get in the spirit of fall time. We went with our friend Jen and her 2 year old daughter Hana. It was lots of fun. I loved taking a hay ride around the patch (in the scorching heat).
I dressed up Hoku in her farmer john overalls just for the occasion.
We picked up a mini Hoku-sized pumpkin in commemoration of the event.
